GATHERING IN GOD’S PRESENCE

PRELUDE

CALL TO WORSHIP

You are a chosen race, a royal priesthood,

A holy nation, God's own people, In order that you may proclaim the mighty acts of him who called you

out of darkness, Into his marvelous light. Once you were not a people,

But now we are God's people; Once you had not received mercy,

But now we have received mercy. Let us worship God.

OPENING PRAYER

Spirit of life and love, we gather together in different ways this morning, from computer screens,

from telephones; we gather, reaching out across the wires,

waving from a safe distance, to come together in community.

We gather as we are able, ready to be of service to each other,

to the world, ready to build the community of hope and of love, as we face this bright morning.

We are apart, but we are together, offering our love, our commitment, our hope, and our prayers, in service to one another and this world.

It is a new way,

but an old way,

that we come together in worship today.

CALL TO CONFESSION

SILENT PRAYER OF CONFESSION

CORPORATE PRAYER OF CONFESSION

Holy God,

we confess

that we have been reluctant to speak out clearly,

naming the injustices we see and declaring your vision.

We confess our reluctance

to embrace our calling as your people,

chosen by you to declare, by words and actions,

your dream of justice and joy.

Remind us, God,

that you have made us for your service - and recharge us with your Word.

Renew us, God.

Grant us courage to live out your way of peace and grace.

We ask it in Jesus’ name.

Amen.

WORDS OF ASSURANCE

SHARING THE PEACE OF CHRIST

The peace of the risen Christ be with you.

And also with you.

THE WORD

PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION

O risen Christ, open us to the power of your resurrection as we hear it proclaimed anew this day, that we too might rise to new life in you. Amen.

FIRST READING Psalm 31:1-5, 15-16 (unison)

In you, O Lord, I seek refuge; do not let me ever be put to shame; in your righteousness deliver me. Incline your ear to me; rescue me speedily. Be a rock of refuge for me, a strong fortress to save me.

You are indeed my rock and my fortress; for your name’s sake lead me and guide me, take me out of the net that is hidden for me, for you are my refuge. Into your hand I commit my spirit; you have redeemed me, O Lord, faithful God.

My times are in your hand:

Deliver me from the hand of my enemies and persecutors.

Let your face shine upon your servant; save me in your steadfast love.

For the Word of God in Scripture

For the Word of God among us,

For the Word of God within us,

Thanks be to God
