Eighth Sunday after Pentecost

Gathering in God's Presence

Prelude

Greetings and Announcements

Call to Worship

Waiting is never easy for us.

We are a culture of “instant” response.

Today, God is asking us to wait; to be patient.

It is not going to be easy for us to do that.

Quiet your spirits and open your hearts to God’s word for you today.

Lord, help us to be ready to hear and respond to your word.

Opening Prayer

Lord of mustard seeds and yeast,

we come to you this day,

seeking your Word and will for us.

Make us people who care deeply for others.

Give us courage to be yeast for the rising of hope

and peace throughout the world.

Open our hearts to your redeeming love,

for we ask this in Christ’s Name. AMEN.

Opening Hymn O’ For a Thousand Tongues to Sing

O for a thousand tongues to sing

My dear Redeemer’s praise,

The glories of my God and King,

The triumphs of God's grace!

Call to Confession

Silent Prayer of Confession

Corporate Prayer of Confession

Almighty God,

who watches over us at all times,

guide us all these days.

We confess that we have allowed

a host of worries and frustrations

to crowd out your word for us.

As you give us peace and your transforming love,

also forgive all those times

when we have been less than faithful disciples.

Gently visit us again with your healing powers.

Restore our hope and courage and joy for all the times ahead.

We ask this in the name of the Master Healer, Jesus Christ. AMEN. Words of Assurance

Sharing the Peace of Christ

The peace of the risen Christ be with you.

And also with you.

Gloria Patri

The Word

Prayer for Illumination

Prepare our hearts, O God, to accept your Word.

that, hearing, we may also obey your will;

through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Prayers of the People/Pastoral Prayer

Lord, in your steadfast love,

Hear our prayer.

Lord's Prayer

Offertory

Prayer of Dedication

Loving God, we share what we have

because you share so abundantly with us.

May our sharing be an act of thanksgiving and praise

for all you have done and all you will continue to do for us.

We dedicate these gifts and offer ourselves to your service.

Bless us and our gifts,

that we might be a source of help,

hope, and joy to a world in need.

With grateful hearts we pray, Amen.

Closing Hymn Arise Your Light Is Come

Arise, your light has come!

The Spirit's call obey;

show forth the glory of your God

which shines on you today.

Arise, your light has come!

Fling wide the prison door;

proclaim the captive's liberty,

good tidings to the poor.

Arise, your light has come!

All you in sorrow born,

bind up the brokenhearted ones

and comfort those who mourn.

Arise, your light has come!

The mountains burst in song!

Rise up like eagles on the wing,

God's pow'r will make us strong.
